Fairness Guide

Enjoying the Game: The DYNE is a competitive league that is also about winning. However, the main focus is on having fun, i.e. all members should enjoy the game. However, we also want to give every GM the opportunity to use their own style of play.

To combine these two different approaches, we use the Fairness Guide. The general aim should always be to guarantee a good gaming experience for everyone involved, while at the same time preserving individual styles and not restricting them too much.

General Guidelines:

  • Realism: All GMs and coaches are encouraged to play basketball as realistically as possible. This includes a variation of different offensive actions. This is especially true when you have a high lead.*
  • No Cheese: It is not allowed to do only one move all the time (e.g. spin move, drop step, alley oop etc) just because it works particularly well in one year and cannot be defended (well).*
  • No Quit: Quitting is generally prohibited. If the connection is too bad to play or the game is not running properly (e.g. shooting bug or similar), you can quit the game if your opponent agrees. Only within the first three minutes of the game you may quit without your opponent's consent, but you must inform your opponent of the reason..
  • Menu Carousel/Repeated Pausing: It is forbidden to constantly press pause and disrupt the opponent's game rhythm. Checking stats from time to time, making a substitution or changing a defensive setting is allowed, but not every few minutes.
  • Minutes Restriction: Starters must also be substituted every once a while. On average, they are not allowed to play more than 32 minutes. In individual games, they can play for a maximum of 36 minutes (without overtime).
  • Stat Padding: The deliberate pushing of individual players is not permitted. This means that you are not allowed to do everything with just one player in order to achieve particularly high stats. In blowouts (= wins with a difference of more than 25 points), no player should take more than 20 shots and be on the field for more than 25 minutes.*
  • Offball Ball Defense: You must defend the player with the ball manually. Permanently controlling a player away from the ball is not allowed (e.g. “camping” with the center or hiding on the weak side).
Briefly switching to intercept a pass, quickly repositioning a defender or running to the help defense is expressly permitted. The permanent control of players away from the ball is not permitted.
  • CPU Support: All CPU supports in the controller settings that interfere with the control (e.g. “Boxout Assist Strength”) must be set to 0.
  • Shot Time Profile: The Shot Time Profile must be set to Low Risk.
  • Layup Profile: The Layup Profile must be set to RealFG%.
  • Free Throw Timing: The Three Frow Timing must be set to User Timing.
  • Not Permitted Shooting Settings: Dunks with Shot Meter (“skill dunks”) as well as Rhythm Shooting is prohibited (recognizable when “Tempo” appears in the Shot Feedback).

    * For GMs with a win rate below 40%, the guidelines are less restrictive. In this case it is allowed to do more with the stars and to have less variation in the game.

Fairplay:

You are welcome to give the ball back in special situations, e.g. if the opponent accidentally throws across the entire field or runs out of bounds due to lag, etc.. However, this is completely voluntary and not mandatory.
